london was fab. touristy stuff works for me. we went on the London Eye and "oohed and aahed" at the fantastic panorama. You forget just how many interesting things there are in London. it would be easy to fill 2 weeks just wandering. oh to have 2 weeks to wander.
we stayed in the fantastic Apex hotel near the tower of london which I would highly reccomend to anyone, very comfortable, close to a tube, lovely room and good price. do I sound like an advert?
we also visited the excellent cabinet rooms which were very sobering but fascinating all the same. with the churchill exhibition also having the same effect. that is a serious impressive piece of exhibitioning (is that a word?) with all sorts of jiggerypokerytechhiestuff aiming to make it more interesting - which I guess it did although it was, at times, just a little bit mind-blowing with overstimulation. All very high-tech but there were times when I just wanted to read a bit of information and look at some photos in a logical, or, dare-i-say-it, chronological order! - must be old. Still, it was fascinating reading about how Churchill prepared, rehearsed and delivered his speeches. Can't ever imagine a Blair musuem can you? Hmmmm, the world might be in better shape if we had leaders like we had in the "good old days"... or is that just nostalgia perverting historical fact?
ANYWAY I digress. we also visited the
Wildlife Photography Exhibition at the Natural History Museum - again an excellent exhibition where many of the photographs took our breath away. especially
this one - (taken by a teenager - grrr) and my other favourites are
here,
here and
here.
more on london later. as an aside... do we really need to know about camilla's impending operation??? surely the poor lady needs some privacy?
